What Are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are cosmetic injections that are used to add volume to the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. They are made from a variety of materials, including hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body, and are designed to add fullness to specific areas of the face such as the cheeks, lips, and under-eye hollows.

Dermal fillers can also be used to enhance other facial features, such as the jawline and cheekbones, and to restore volume loss due to aging. The injections are usually performed in a medical office and take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour to complete, with results that can last anywhere from several months to a year or more, depending on the type of filler used.

It is important to note that dermal fillers are a medical procedure that should be performed by a licensed healthcare professional with experience in the administration of fillers. It is also important to discuss any potential risks and complications with your provider before undergoing the treatment.

General Information

The Pain Factor:

With each treatment, special attention is paid to minimise any treatment discomfort.

This is achieved by applying specially formulated, ultra-high strength numbing creams before any injecting takes place along with using Inhalation Anaesthesia Gas (Laughing Gas).

We also use ultra-fine micro needles, soft cannulas, and vibrational anaesthesia devices to further minimize treatment discomfort.

“All new patients are pleasantly surprised with our relatively pain-free injecting techniques.” Dr. Ehsan Jadoon

Dermal Fillers for Facial Enhancement (Beautification):

Patients can choose to have dermal fillers for quick and effective enhancement of their facial features (Facial contouring & Beautification). The following treatments are routinely requested:

• Lip Fillers
• Nose Reshaping (Nonsurgical Rhinoplasty)
• Cheek Bone Enhancement
• Chin Augmentation
• Jawline Reshaping
• Tear Trough Correction (Under eye hollowing)
• Brow Contouring

Dermal Fillers for Facial Anti-Aging:

As we age, the effects of gravity, sun exposure, and facial volume loss contribute to the development of facial wrinkles, folds, hollowing, and sagging.

With the advent of modern cosmetic medical techniques, more and more people are opting for non-surgical facial enhancement procedures to correct these issues. Dermal fillers are at the forefront of this revolution.

The following ageing concerns can be effectively improved with dermal fillers:

• Facial Hollowing & Sagging (Liquid Face Lift)
• Facial Lines, Folds and Wrinkles
• Smokers Lines & Naso-Labial Folds
• Deep frown lines not responding to Wrinkle Relaxers
• Skin laxity and dehydration (Injectable moisturisers and Bio-remodelling Injectables)
• Neck Rejuvenation (Bio-remodelling injections)

Dermal Fillers for Mature-Age Patients:

Over 30% of our injectable cosmetic patients are men and women in their forties and above. Patients in this demographic:

• Want to have subtle and natural-looking results.
• They do not want anyone else to know that they have had any cosmetic treatment done.
• They usually cannot have much downtime either due to social reasons.

Under the guidance of Dr. Jadoon, all our clinicians are well-trained to deliver soft and natural-looking results for patients who want just to freshen up their appearance.

Dermal Fillers for Other Body Areas:

• Penis Augmentation
• Labia Fillers (Restoring elasticity and contours of Labia Majora)
• Hand Rejuvenation (Restoring volume loss at the back of hands)

Our patients will never look fake or plastic once they have had any treatments with us.”

How To Choose Your Treatment Provider

We understand that the decision to undergo a cosmetic treatment can be a significant one for some individuals. It is of utmost importance to choose a clinician who not only possesses the necessary clinical skills but also takes the time to listen to your concerns and understand your goals.

When considering a cosmetic treatment, it is recommended to thoroughly research potential providers to ensure that you are making an informed decision. It is crucial to not base your choice solely on cost, as the adage “you get what you pay for” often holds true in the medical field.

It is my belief that a successful cosmetic treatment should not only deliver effective results but should also be performed in a manner that is minimally discomforting with minimal downtime. When searching for a provider, keep these factors in mind to help you make an informed decision.

Potential Risks & Complications

All cosmetic procedures carry potential risks, complications, and treatment limitations. We advise patients to seek independent advice from an independent, appropriately qualified medical doctor before thinking about any type of cosmetic enhancement.

FAQs

What are Dermal Fillers made up of?

There are several types of Dermal Fillers available in the market today. The most commonly used Dermal Fillers are made up of a carbohydrate gel.

How is the Dermal Filler treatment performed at Medaesthetics?

At Medaesthetics, optimum pain management is our first priority before any treatment. Dermal Filler treatment involves the application of extra strong numbing cream followed by local infiltration of anaesthesia to the treated area where applicable.

Once the area is entirely numb, Dermal filler gel is carefully injected using ultra-fine needles or soft cannulas. At Medaesthetics, we prefer to use the cannula-technique as this minimises the risk of trauma to arteries or nerves. Lip fillers are done using the smallest possible size needle (31G).

We utilize advance injecting techniques delivering maximum clinical results with minimum discomfort or trauma. Most of our patients are pleasantly surprised to see little to no swelling or bruising after their treatment.

Treatment times vary depending on the amount of dermal filler required and the area treated. Generally, it takes anywhere between five to thirty minutes.

It is possible to apply makeup straight after the treatment and to go about your normal activities.

Patients are advised to refrain from heavy exercise, and consumption of alcohol soon after the treatment as this can increase the risk of swelling and bruising. Treatment with dermal fillers sometimes may take more than one session to achieve the desired results.

How long do the fillers last for?

Dermal fillers used at Medaesthetics are made up of Carbohydrate Gel and last anywhere between six to twenty fours months. We do not use permanent dermal fillers.

Note: At Medaesthetic, we only use the Ultra-premium brand of dermal fillers available in Australia which lasts longer than other brands in its class.

Will I look fake or plastic after having dermal fillers?

At Medaestheics, our prime emphasis is on delivering natural-looking results with any cosmetic treatment we perform. Most of our clients want to look fresh and youthful and not fake and overdone.

A small percentage of our clients want a specific look with their filler treatment. We try our best to tailor-make each treatment to suit our client’s requirement.

Is the dermal fillers procedure painful?

As mentioned above, we use extra strong numbing cream and various other forms of anaesthesia to make the procedure as pain-free as possible. This includes the use of a vibrational anaesthesia device, local anaesthesia injections and inhalation anaesthesia gas (laughing gas).

We do not perform any dental blocks for cosmetic injectable treatments unless the patient specifically requests it. In our experience, injections for dental blocks often cause more pain and trauma than the actual treatment itself!

We are often told by patients who have had injectable cosmetic procedures done elsewhere, that our injecting techniques are by far the gentlest and least painful.

What is the downtime associated with this treatment?

As mentioned earlier, there is generally minimal downtime, and most people can return to their normal activities straight after the treatment. Any downtime is due to swelling or bruising. Swelling tends to settle down within a few hours. Bruising can easily be camouflaged by makeup in most cases.

Note: Fillers in the lips tend to cause more swelling in patients over fifty and may last for up to seventy-two hours in some cases.

When will I see the treatment results?

Initial results with the carbohydrate fillers are visible immediately. The results tend to improve over time as the filler gel slowly plumps up by absorbing moisture from the surrounding area. Final results are seen after at least two weeks.

Some Non-Carbohydrate, Bio-stimulatory fillers tend to show full results several weeks after the procedure and may require three or more treatment sessions before the final results are visible.

What will happen if I stopped having dermal fillers in future? Will I look worse than now?

The answer is “No”. Dermal fillers are not permanent and when performed correctly, they do not have any effect on the future ageing process of your face once you stop having them.

Human skin is extremely elastic and resiliant. You will not look worse than what you would naturally look if you have never had any fillers.

Which factors determine the longevity of dermal fillers?

The longevity of the HA dermal fillers depends upon:
The brand of dermal filler used
It’s consistency (soft, medium or hard)
The amount used and
The treatment site
As mentioned earlier, most Carbohydrate Gel fillers last between six to twenty-four months. Fillers are metabolized faster in patients who:
Are chain smoker
Have a high resting metabolism
Are actively trying to lose weight
Are on a carbohydrate-restricted diet
Are undergoing an emotional stress
Are engaged in vigorous physical exercise/ fitness routines
At Medaesthetic, we only use the Ultra-premium brand of dermal fillers available in Australia which lasts longer than all other brands in their class.

Are there any alternative treatments available that deliver similar or better results than dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are the second most requested cosmetic treatment in the world after wrinkle relaxers. They are quick and cost-effective compared to most other alternative treatments.

However, some patients do not like the idea of having fillers in their face or they may want to try something else. At Medaesthetics, we are one of the few clinics in Perth to offer three alternative treatments to dermal fillers. These are:

Thread lift
Mini Facelift
Micro and Nano Fat grafting

What are the potential risks and complications of dermal fillers?

Carbohydrate fillers have an excellent efficacy profile when injected by an experienced clinician. Some of the rare risks include:

Allergic reaction
Vascular trauma
At Medaesthetics, we perform thousands of filler treatments each year and have the clinical expertise to manage almost every potential complication associated with dermal fillers.

What can I do to prepare myself for this treatment?

Bruising and swelling are the most common side effect of any injection-based treatment. To minimise these side effects, patients are advised to avoid anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin (unless for medical reasons) ibuprofen, fish oil supplements, green tea, garlic, ginkgo and other herbal products for a week before the procedure. All these products are known to thin the blood and increase its clotting time, thus increasing the risk of bruising. Please inform our staff if you are using any medication at the time of your initial consult.

Alcohol also increases the risk of bruising and its consumption should be kept to a minimum the day before your procedure. We also encourage our clients to commence arnica tablets a few days before treatment. Arnica is a herbal supplement and is known to reduce the risk of bruising. It is available over the counter in most pharmacies.

Important: If you have a history of cold sores, please notify us at the time of your initial consultation as soft tissue filler treatment can cause a flare-up. You may be required to take prophylactic anti-viral medications available over the counter in most pharmacies in Australia.

How much does the treatment cost?

The cost of dermal filler treatment vary from clinic to clinic and depends upon the type and brand of filler used, the amount used per session, the area being treated and the qualification and experience of the clinican.

Medaesthetics is boutique cosmetic clinic and our treatment prices are not the cheapest in Perth. Prices for lip fillers can start from as little as $299 for half a millilitre with our Nurse Injectors. Pricing for bigger procedures such as Liquid Face Lift may cost up to $4000. On average, 1ml of premuim dermal filler may cost anywhere between $499 to $850.

It is important to understand that in today’s comsetic industry, you get what you pay for. Clinics advertising the cheapest prices for comsetic treatments are often using low quality product and have inexperienced injectors to keep their overheads low.

At Medaesthetics, we routinely run Special Promos on our most popular cosmetic treatments. To take full advantage and not to miss out, please follow us on our Social Media.
