Potential Risks & Complications with CoolSculpting

• A small minority of patients do not respond to CoolSculpting®
• Under or over-correction
• Nerve pain in the treatment area (extremely rare)
• Rebound hyperplasia of fat (extremely rare).

All CoolSculpting® Fat Freezing treatments at MedAesthetics are medically supervised, and we use the authentic Zeltiq™ CoolSculpting® device, developed in California, USA (please be cautious of inferior, replica devices from Taiwan/China)

How Does Fat Freezing / CoolSculpting® Work?

The procedure involves using specialised applicators to target and freeze stubborn pockets of fat. Once frozen, the fat cells die and are eliminated from the body through a natural excretory process.

Each fat freezing treatment is tailor-made to suit individual patients’ concerns and budgetary restraints.

We offer a spectrum of non-surgical and surgical fat-freezing treatments to help our patients get rid of a range of areas with unwanted or undesirable fat deposits.

The Pain Factor

Our highly experienced clinical team does its utmost to minimize any treatment-associated pain or discomfort. Fine motor skills and a steady pair of hands are essential assets for any cosmetic clinician.

Depending upon the type of procedure being performed, we use high-strength topical numbing cream, inhalation (laughing) gas, local anesthesia, and a skin-cooling device to make the procedure as tolerable as possible.

It is important to understand that not all fat-freezing devices are the same. Only the latest version of Zeltiq™ CoolSculpting® platform delivers the superior results which patients want. Older models of this platform and Korean/Chinese-made replica Fat Freezing platforms (which many clinics seem to have) are just not capable of providing effective results. Patients are advised to choose the clinic which offers the latest applicators and treatment protocols, performed by medical staff.

Important

It is important to understand that treatments which are not medically supervised and are performed at most franchised laser salons, cannot deliver the same level of results and safe clinical outcomes that specialised medical & dermatology clinics like MedAesthetics are able to offer. It is, therefore, vital that you choose your treatment provider based upon their experience and reputation and not just on marketing hype or discount pricing.

Potential Risks & Complications

All cosmetic procedures carry potential risks, complications, and treatment limitations. We advise patients to seek independent advice from an independent, appropriately qualified medical doctor before thinking about any type of cosmetic enhancement.

Fat Free FAQs

What is Coolsculpting?

Coolsculpting is a form of Cryo-lipolysis (the technical term for “fat freezing”). It is a non-surgical method of destroying adipose tissue (fat cell) under the skin by freezing them to death. The treatment is aimed to eliminate unwanted body fat and tone up problem areas in the body which do not respond to exercise or diet.

How does Coolsculpting work?

Coolsculpting applicator is applied to the body area that is being treated. Extremely cold air is then passed through the applicators using patented technology which selectively freezes the fat cells and destroys them in the process. Skin cells are not affected. These dead fat cells are then removed permanently by the body through its natural excretory processes.

Please watch the animated video at the end of this page to better understand the procedure.

Is CoolSculpting painful?

Most patients tolerate Coolsculpting extremely well. There is some discomfort associated during the initial part of the treatment when the applicators start the fat freezing process. However, once the area being treated is frozen, it becomes numb and the remainder of the treatment is painless.

After the treatment, there is mild to moderate discomfort which some patients may experience that lasts anywhere between a few hours to two, three days afterwards. This can be managed by oral painkillers.

Am I a good Coolsculpting candidate?

Coolsculpting is suitable for any healthy and fit individual who want to eliminate stubborn areas of body fat not responding to exercise and diet. They are not ready for surgical liposuction.

Is Coolsculpting effective?

Coolsculpting is a non-surgical, non-invasive fat reduction procedure that is cleared by TGA and FDA as an effective treatment. Like any other treatment, there are some potential risks associated with this treatment which may include:

Temporary swelling, bruising and redness
Numbness, tenderness and skin sensitivity of the treated area
Temporary nerve pain (Neuralgia) in the treated area and rebound hyperplasia (fat cells multiplication). Both of these side-effects are extremely rare.
Our doctors have the clinical ability and expertise to manage the above-mentioned complications in-house. We do not have to refer patients to another clinic.

Is Coolsculpting better than Liposuction?

Coolsculpting is a non-surgical fat reduction procedure. Coolsculpting is the best treatment to eliminate fat cells in any given area when the patient doesn’t want any surgery (surgical liposuction) or is unfit to have one.

Medaesthetics is one of the very few clinics in Australia to offer both Coolsculpting and various types of surgical liposuction under one roof. We will only recommend Coolsculpting as a treatment option if we are confident that it is the right treatment for you.

Which areas are most commonly treated?

CoolSculpting can be used anywhere on the body but is typically used for targeting excess fat in the following areas:

Chin
Upper arms
Armpit fat (under-arm bulge)
Abdomen (upper & lower)
Flanks (Love handles)
Back
Bra-rolls
Thighs (Outer & inner)
Banana-rolls

Does Coolsculpting tighten loose skin?

Coolsculpting is not a skin tightening treatment. However, patients may see a tightening effect in the skin of the treated areas the reduction in fat cells takes place. The skin has the ability to retract once the fat deposits underneath it are removed.

Is Coolsculpting covered by private health funds?

CoolSculpting is classified as a cosmetic procedure, hence not covered by private health insurances at this stage.

How long does the procedure take?

This depends upon the areas being treated and the number of applicators required to do the job. On average a single treatment session may last anywhere between thirty-five minutes to two hours.

Where does the fat go and are the results permanent?

Since the targeted fat cells are crystallised (frozen), the body processes the dead fat cells as waste products and eliminates these through natural excretion process.

Coolsculpting delivers a permanent fat reduction in the treated area as long as the patient maintains their normal body weight.

Is there any downtime with CoolSculpting?

Most patients are expected to resume normal physical activities as soon as they feel okay to do so. Patients don’t have to take time off work after the treatment unless they develop some discomfort for which a medical certificate can be issued.

Do I need to follow a strict diet and exercise program after the treatment?

A balanced diet and active lifestyle is recommended after any fat reduction treatment for long term results. In clinical practice, we find that most patients feel more motivated to follow a healthier life-style after their CoolSculpting treatment.

When will I see results?

Patients can expect to see a 20% – 40% loss of fat in the treated area after a single treatment session. The results can be seen from as little as three weeks, but final results are only seen at three months after the treatment.

Repeat treatments can be performed to achieve more fat reduction if required.

Who is not a good candidate?

Patients with unrealistic expectations are not good candidates for any cosmetic or fat reduction treatment.

It is important to understand that Coolsculpting is not a weight-loss treatment. It is not suitable for obese people and those who are simply lazy and unwilling to improve their lifestyle.

Important: For patients who are willing to explore the surgical fat reduction option (Vaser Liposuction), we recommend they have a consultation with Dr Ehsan Jadoon to discuss all treatment options.

What is Dual Sculpting?

Dual-sculpting is the term used when two Coolsculpting Machines are used side by side to apply multiple applicators simultaneously to treat multiple areas and reduce the treatment time.

Medaesthetics is one of the very few clinics in Australia which offers Dual-sculpting™.

What are the costs involved?

This depends upon the body areas being treated and the number of Coolsculpting cycles being used. Prices start from $700-$1000 per Cycle (unless we are running a special promotion).

As mentioned above, it is important to understand that there are several low quality, fat freezing platforms being used at some clinics and beauty salons in Perth.

Treatment prices as low as $50 are being advertised to attract customers. Such cheap fat freezing devices don’t deliver any results and have the potential to cause serious injury such as freeze burns, permanent disfigurement and skin discolouration of the treated areas.

What is a Coolsculpting Cycle?

A ‘cycle’ is determined by the number of times the CoolSculpting applicator is placed on the skin to treat a pocket of fat. Depending on the amount of fat present, more than one cycle may be required to treat any given body area to achieve the desired result.

Why choose Medaesthetics in Perth as your one-stop Fat-reduction Clinic?

We are one of a handful of clinics in Australia to offer both Surgical (Liposuction) and Non-Surgical (Coolsculpting, Venus Legacy) options for fat reduction under one roof.
