Different Treatment Options for Acne Scarring

Acne is a multi-factorial, inflammatory skin condition with the appearance of raised red lesions known as pimples or papules. These can contain fluid such as lipids and pus and can accompanied by comedones (blackheads), milia (whiteheads), excess oil, dead skin cells and dry flaky skin.

Acne can affect males and females from young teenagers and well into adult years and has many causes including hormones, medication, diet and lifestyle choices, weather, incorrect skin care or make up, and genetics.

Treating Acne

While there are many treatment options to successfully reduce and clear acne, most cases are often left with some residual scarring. The most common types of acne scarring we see include atrophic (pock marks), hypertrophic (raised), and pigmented (coloured) scarring.

Types of Treatments for Acne Scarring

Here at MedAesthetics we have several excellent effective and safe treatments for acne scarring including:

Skin Needling

Direct skin needling uses detachable, disposable micro needles which glide across the skin while a serum is infused. We have different serum options depending on the type of acne scarring, and the condition of the skin. This treatment induces cell proliferation, angiogenesis, and collagen stimulation in addition to the added benefits of the serum such as hydration, vitamins and minerals. We also finish off the treatment with LED Healite to promote healing.

Laser Genesis

This type of laser specifically targets the pigment in acne scarring, while also stimulating collagen. Ideal for the redness in scarring, and also broken capillaries or diffused redness. Laser genesis only takes around 30 minutes for a full face and is pain free.

Viva Viva MD Skin Resurfacing

Uses radio frequency (RF) which causes an inflammatory response in the skin to aid in reducing atrophic or pock mark acne scarring. In most cases we only target the affected areas, however we can treat the full face if desired. We can also TCA cross peel in the one treatment for more severe scarring.

Revlite Laser

This type of laser is best suited for pigmented acne scarring where it has left brown or grey pigments in the scarring. The Revlite laser targets the pigment in the cells, slowly breaking down the colouring while also building collagen and elastin. This treatment is pain free, has no downtime and only takes about 15 minutes.

Scar & Stretchmark Program

Each treatment breaks the scar tissue and stimulates the production of fresh collagen & elastin in the skin by inducing a trauma. We combine several different treatment modalities to tackle almost all types of scars.
