Treatment Summary – Mole Removal

No. of Treatments

• A single treatment is usually enough to remove a raised mole.
• Flat moles may require 2 to 4 treatment sessions.

Procedure Time

15 minutes.

Discomfort Level

A strong numbing cream is applied to the treatment area prior to each treatment. Larger moles may require a local anaesthetic injection to fully numb it. This is done using the micro-needle injection technique.

Recovery Time

A small scab is formed after the treatment, which requires 5 to 7 days of healing.

Results

• Results are seen immediately for all raised lesions.
• Flat moles require a few days to fade off. More than one treatment sessions may be needed for flat moles.

Duration of Results

Results are permanent/ long-term. Some moles tend to grow back over time but can be easily removed using the same technique.

Resumption of Usual Activities

• Immediately for most light activities.
• Avoid strenuous exercise (sweating) or swimming for the first 24-48 hours.

General Information – Mole Removal

Advantages of Laser Mole Removal compared to surgical cutting, cautery or liquid nitrogen Freezing (Cryotherapy)

The key benefit of using lasers is that there is very low risk of potential scarring or prolonged recovery as there is no cutting or stitching required.

Using this technique, we can easily remove lesions from delicate and sensitive areas such as eyelids, lid margins, scalp, armpits, and groin/ genital area.

Other techniques of mole removal, such as cutting, electric cautery and Liquid Nitrogen Freezing (Cryotherapy), usually result in skin discolouration and unsightly scarring.

Clinical Examination

Each lesion is first carefully examined and only removed once we are certain that it’s safe to do so. If we find suspicious-looking lesions, they are not removed, and we ask the patient to see a skin cancer clinic for confirmation of diagnosis.

The Pain Factor

Our highly experienced clinical team does its utmost to minimise any treatment-associated pain or discomfort.

Depending upon the type of procedure being performed, we use high-strength topical numbing cream, inhalation (laughing) gas, and local anaesthesia as well as a skin-cooling device to make the procedure as tolerable as possible.

Potential Risks & Complications Of Mole Removal Procedures

• Infection (during the healing phase, rare)
• Temporary skin discolouration of the treated area (rare)
• Skin textural change – Temporary (very rare)

At MedAesthetics, we perform several thousand laser Mole Removal treatments each year with excellent patient feedback and clinical outcomes.

Important

It is important to understand that skin treatments, which are not medically supervised cannot deliver the same level of results and clinical outcomes as those which are performed at medical clinics. It is, therefore, vital that you choose your treatment provider based on their experience and reputation and not just on marketing hype or discounted pricing.

Choosing Your Cosmetic Treatment Provider

Deciding to undergo cosmetic treatment can be a significant and sometimes daunting decision. It’s essential to select a practitioner who possesses the requisite expertise and empathetic understanding to effectively address your specific concerns.

At MedAesthetics, our fully qualified team of medical doctors, registered nurses, and dermal clinicians work together as a team to deliver effective clinical outcomes.

FAQs

What techniques are used at Medaesthetics to remove moles and other raised skin lesions?

At Medaesthetics, we remove non-cancerous moles, skin tags, milia etc using:

Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Laser (for raised mole)
Pico and Nano Second Q-switched Lasers (for flat moles)
Radio-wave surgeryCO2 (Carbon Dioxide) and
Erbium-glass laser (for raised moles)
Dr Jadoon is one of the pioneering doctors in WA to use CO2 Laser for mole removal since 2010.

How is the procedure performed?

The lesion is numbed for 30 minutes using high-strength numbing cream. For larger moles, this is followed by a local anaesthetic injection using a very small needle. Once the area is numb, the mole is then carefully removed using the laser beam.

There is usually no bleeding associated and since the skin is not cut there is no suturing required either.

The majority of cases heal without any scarring or discolouration.

Is it painful to have a mole removed?

Once the area is numb, there is usually little to no pain associated with the treatment.
Some patients may feel a slight hot/burning sensation if the mole being treated has only been numbed using the numbing cream and local anaesthesia injection has not been given.

Can moles be removed from delicate areas such as eyelid margins, tongue, nose, bikini area?

Yes. Using the precise laser beam, we can remove any skin lesion from most body areas.

What are the chances of a mole growing back after it is removed using a laser?

The majority of raised skin lesions such as moles and skin tags do not grow back once they are removed. However, some do grow back occasionally (less than 5%). This is because the human body has the ability to regenerate tissue.
It is not possible to predict which moles or skin tags will grow back. A touch-up treatment can easily be performed to fix any recurring moles at a discount price.

Flat moles usually require 3-5 treatment sessions in most cases.

Does laser mole removal leave a scar?

The risk of scarring with the laser mole removal technique is extremely little when performed by an experienced clinician. We have performed over 20,000 mole/skin tag treatments over the past 10 years and have not had any cases of visibly noticeable scarring.

It is important to understand that once a mole is removed, the treated area can stay reddish/brown for several weeks and slowly regains the normal skin colour. Some patients think that this is scarring but it is not.

I once had a few moles removed by a GP which left me with noticeable scarring. Can these scars be fixed?

Absolutely. We see dozens of patients each month for laser scar removal. Most GP’s cut any suspicious moles out and send them for biopsy. A majority of these moles turn out to be non-cancerous, but disfiguring scars are left forever.

If you have any scars, please take a photo and send it to us via email. We will be able to let you know the cost of fixing the scar and how many sessions you may need for visibly noticeable results.

How much does it cost?

Moles and Xanthelasmas (yellow cholesterol deposits in the eyelid skin) : $350 to $450 for first mole/ Xanthelasma depending upon its size and location. $50 to $150 for each subsequent mole. For more than eight moles, we offer a discounted package price of $1000 to $1500.
Milia, Syringomas, skin tags, warts: $350 to $800 per 15-30 min session (up to 30 lesions)
Touch-up treatment: $50 – $150 per mole (raised).
Note: Cosmetic medical procedures are generally not covered by private health insurance or by Medicare. All fees are discussed with you before the procedure. There are no hidden costs.
