Welcome To Medaesthetics

Welcome to Medaesthetics, Perth’s Award-winning, Boutique Cosmetic Clinics since 2013.

At Medaesthetics, we offer the entire spectrum of cosmetic and anti-ageing treatments including PDO Threads (thread lifts), anti-wrinkle injectionsliposuctionfat freezingnose fillers, laser mole removal and dermatological lasers.

As we age, the effects of sun damage and gravity on our skin become more noticeable. In the face, collagen production slows down, and facial fat pads start to disappear. This results in facial sagging and fine lines and wrinkles. In recent years, PDO thread lifts have become a popular lower-intensity cosmetic procedure. By gently lifting sagging facial contours we can support facial retaining ligaments to maintain youthful facial contours.

The procedure uses delicate absorbable sutures (with tiny barbs or cones attached) inserted under the skin strategically using fine needles or cannulas.

“At Medaesthetics, we have been performing various types of Thread Lift procedures in Perth since 2010, including PDO Threads”.

What Are PDO Threads?

PDO threads (Polydioxanone threads) are a popular targeted cosmetic treatment for skin tightening, lifting, and rejuvenation. PDO threads are made of a biocompatible material that is commonly used in medical sutures. These threads are inserted under the skin and help to stimulate collagen production, resulting in firmer and tighter skin.

Depending on the specific treatment area and desired results, PDO threads come in different types and sizes. They can be inserted using a needle or a cannula, depending on the technique used by the practitioner. PDO threads can be used to target various areas of the face, such as the cheeks, jawline, brows, and neck, as well as other parts of the body.

The treatment typically takes about 30-60 minutes, depending on the area being treated, and can be performed under local anesthesia. After the treatment, there may be some swelling, redness, or bruising. These symptoms typically resolve within a few days.

The results of PDO thread treatment are typically visible immediately after the treatment but continue to improve over the following weeks as collagen production increases. The effects can last anywhere from 6-18 months, depending on the type of thread used and the individual’s skin condition.

PDO threads are an effective alternative to traditional surgical procedures for those who wish to achieve a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. It is important to choose a qualified and experienced practitioner who can provide personalised treatment and ensure the best possible results.

Bruising and Swelling: Common side effects that typically resolve within a few days to weeks after the procedure.

Pain and Discomfort: Can occur at the site of the thread insertion and during the recovery period.

Thread Migration or Extrusion: Threads may move from their original position or poke through the skin, requiring removal.

Asymmetry: Incorrect placement of threads can lead to uneven lifting or bunching of the skin.

Skin Dimpling or Irregularity: The skin over the threads may appear irregular or dimpled, especially if the threads are placed superficially.

Allergic Reaction: Rarely, individuals may react to the thread material.

Nerve Damage: Though uncommon, there’s a risk of temporary or permanent nerve damage, leading to numbness or muscle weakness.

Note: It is important to discuss the potential risks and side effects of PDO thread treatment with a qualified practitioner before undergoing the procedure. Practitioners will also provide detailed post-treatment instructions to minimize the risk of complications and ensure the best possible results

General Information

PDO Thread Results:

The results of PDO threads can vary from person to person, but generally, patients will see some improvement immediately after the procedure. However, the full effects of the treatment may take several weeks to become fully visible as the collagen production process is activated.

After the threads are inserted, they stimulate the body’s natural healing process, leading to increased collagen production and improved skin elasticity. The newly produced collagen can take several weeks to form and strengthen, resulting in gradual improvements to the treated area.

Typically, patients will notice the most significant results after about 2-3 months as the collagen production reaches its peak. However, the duration and intensity of the results can vary depending on several factors, such as the patient’s age, skin condition, lifestyle, and the number of threads used.

In general, PDO thread treatment can produce results that last between 6-18 months, depending on the type of thread used and the individual’s skin condition. It is essential to follow post-treatment instructions and attend follow-up appointments to maximize the treatment’s benefits and ensure long-lasting results.

Areas Improved by PDO Threads:

PDO (Polydioxanone) thread treatment can be used to improve various areas of the face and body, including:

Jawline and jowls: lift and tighten the skin along the jawline and reduce the appearance of sagging jowls.

Cheeks: add volume and lift to the cheeks, reducing the appearance of sagging and creating a more youthful, contoured appearance.

Neck: tighten the skin on the neck and reduce the appearance of sagging and wrinkles.

Eyebrows: lift and tighten the skin around the eyebrows, creating a more youthful and awake appearance.

Nasolabial folds: reduce the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth.

Forehead and temples: lift and tighten the skin on the forehead and temples, reducing the appearance of sagging and wrinkles.

Body: tighten and lift sagging skin on the body.

PDO thread treatment is a versatile and effective cosmetic procedure that can be customized to address each patient’s unique concerns. It is important to consult with a qualified practitioner to determine the best treatment plan for achieving the desired results.

Treatment Limitations:

While PDO (Polydioxanone) thread treatment can be an effective option for improving the appearance of sagging skin, it is not suitable for everyone, and there are some limitations to consider. Some of the limitations of PDO thread treatment include:

  1. Severity of sagging: PDO thread treatment is most effective for mild to moderate sagging of the skin. In cases of severe sagging, surgical procedures such as a facelift may be necessary to achieve the desired results.
  2. Skin thickness: PDO threads are most effective in thinner skin types. Thicker skin types may not respond as well to the treatment, as the threads may not be able to lift and tighten the skin effectively.
  3. Number of threads: PDO thread treatment typically involves the placement of several threads to achieve the desired results. However, there is a limit to the number of threads that can be used, and over-treatment can potentially lead to complications such as skin puckering or migration of the threads.
  4. Duration of results: While PDO thread treatment can produce long-lasting results, the duration of the effects can vary depending on several factors, such as the individual’s age, skin condition, and lifestyle. Patients may require periodic touch-up treatments to maintain the results.
  5. Not suitable for certain medical conditions: PDO thread treatment may not be suitable for individuals with certain medical conditions, such as autoimmune disorders or bleeding disorders, as it can potentially increase the risk of complications.

It is important to discuss the limitations and potential risks of PDO thread treatment with a qualified practitioner before undergoing the procedure. They will be able to assess whether the treatment suits your specific needs and help you determine the best course of action for achieving your desired results.

The Pain Factor:

With each treatment, special attention is paid to minimise any treatment discomfort.

This is achieved by applying specially formulated, ultra-high strength numbing creams, and cool air, along with using Inhalation Anaesthesia Gas (Laughing Gas).

“After more than a decade of doing Thread Lifts, our experience has shown us that not every patient who requests Thread Lift is a suitable candidate. Careful patient selection is the key to a clinically successful outcome.

Important

PDO Threads are effective, relatively affordable, and offer little to no downtime. There are, however, some side effects associated with poorly performed procedures. It is, therefore, vital that you choose your treatment provider based on their experience and reputation and not just on marketing hype or discount pricing.
